The purpose of the Language Proficiency Examination (LPE) is to test staff members’ written and spoken knowledge in any of the six official languages of the United Nations. To prepare yourself for it, the Language and Communications Programme offers you a wide variety of online activities.

Whether you prefer to study at your own pace, or be guided by a tutor, there are Lanaguage Proficiency Examination online preparation activities for you, wherever you might be located in the world. With flexible schedules and experienced educators, our catalogue of online courses and webinars are tailored to your professional linguistic development.

There are LPE preparation courses in English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Certifying your oral and written proficiency in an official language of the United Nations (other than your principal working language) can play a key role in your personal and professional development as multilingualism contributes to the achievement of the goals of the United Nations, as set out in Article 1 of the Charter of the United Nations.

The 2017 Language Profiency Examination is scheduled to take place in September. The registration period for the exam ends 3 May 2017
