WORK + LIFE EVENTS
The HR Information Sheets below are created by the UN Office of Human Resources Management to provide succinct information on substantive aspects of Human Resources processes (Who, What, Why, Where, When, How), and are meant to complement technical information on using Umoja for HR Management. HR Information Sheets give details on various benefits associated with Work and Life Events. Until your duty station is included in the Umoja roll out for HR, proceed to request benefits according to the process in place in your duty station. Your local HR Partners can assist you. Please note that for now the materials below are intended for Umoja users and as additional Umoja processes are rolled out, Information Sheets and FAQs will be updated. These HR Information Sheets are advance copies and all links and references listed are not yet available. If you have a question relating to HR, please email us at unstaff-servingasone@un.org. We may not respond individually to every email but rather develop submitted questions into future FAQs. WORK EVENTS Your initial appointment with the Organization is also the start of your personal profile, and you will be asked to complete some procedures and provide information at the time you are appointed. Refer to other pages in the HR Portal and check the HR Information Sheets related to topics that you may have questions about as you start your employment with the UN.
A change in position becomes a ‘work event’ after you have been selected for a position. In the HR Information Sheets you will find information on how the change in position is carried out.
When you change duty stations there are processes to carry out for shipment and travel arrangements and related changes in allowances are made. You can find out what is involved in your move and how to take action in the HR Information Sheets.
The Organization provides different types of leave to allow for rest and relaxation as well as unforeseen events like illness. You can find out the conditions for each type of leave and where and how to make the requests for the different types of leave in the relevant HR Information Sheets.
When your retirement date is six months away, begin your preparation and get the information you need about the process for leaving the Organization. You and the HR Partners will complete procedures offline and in the Umoja system that will allow the Organization to process your final payments.
Separation from the Organization For a separation from the Organization – other than for retirement – you will be asked to complete some procedures that will allow the Organization to process any final payments and close your record. You and the HR Partners will carry out certain parts of the separation process offline and in the Umoja system.
LIFE EVENTS Your personal profile includes any change in the members of your household or your relationship to them, if they are residing with you or not. Changes should be promptly made as in many cases the change will affect the type and amounts of benefits and allowances you may claim. The HR Information Sheets related to life events will tell you who may claim the benefit(s) that apply to certain life events, what they are, where and how to keep the information up-to-date.
