CHECKLIST TO HELP YOU GET UNDERWAY
Register on the Global Induction Platform
This website provides you with a personalized induction plan that suits your specific role, location and familiarity level with the Organization. It will list the various activities, learning programmes and recommended readings that you should undertake in your first weeks and months.
Consult the HR Portal
Use this website when you need guidance on a wide range of human resources issues.
Participate in the induction programme at your duty station
Ask your supervisor or your HR Partner if your duty station has an in-person induction programme for new staff. It is a great way to meet others and start forging friendships. If you have joined the UN through the Young Professionals Programme (YPP), ask your supervisor or HR Partner for information about the YPP induction programme.
Get spouse support
Some duty stations have local organizations that coordinate networking meetings and other events for spouses of UN staff. Ask your HR Partner if there is one near you. In New York, the Local Expatriate Staff Association (NYLESA) is well-established. The Kenya Local Expatriate Spouse Association (UNKLESA) is also well-established.
There is also a guide on employment options for spouses. Click here to learn more.
