The updates to the HR Handbook as at 31 August 2015 have been posted online. Below is a list of the recent changes for your reference:

Starting a new job, which may sometimes entail moving locations, can be an exciting as well as challenging experience. Mobility trends indicate that internationally recruited staff have made an average of 1,769 duty station moves per year between 2009 and 2013. With the incoming Mobility and Career Development Framework, a new staffing system for international positions, it will be the more important to provide support to staff as they pursue new opportunities within the UN Secretariat.

To support staff in making such career transitions, a variety of new resources are available:

Cases of whooping cough and measles cases are on the rise as a result of the reduced routine vaccination coverage in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. This is due to the fact that health facilities in those countries have been focusing on halting the Ebola outbreak.

If you are scheduled for duty travel to West Africa in the near future, you may need to undertake several new vaccines. Travel clearance to Ebola-affected countries is conditional upon vaccination against the following diseases:

Assistant Secretary-General Carole Wainaina, Chief of the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM), recently visited Nairobi to familiarize herself with the duty station. She met with the UNON Director General Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde, and the Executive Directors of UN-Habitat and UNEP. She also held a dialogue with staff. She met with the Staff Representatives, UN Disputes Tribunal (UNDT) and Human Resources(HR) Community.
