A new UN Cares e-course is now available to all UN Secretariat staff

As raising awareness about HIV continues to be a priority for the United Nations and the broader global community, an e-course containing the latest information on HIV as a workplace issue has just been launched for all UN Secretariat staff by UN Cares. UN Cares aims to reduce the impact of HIV in the UN workplace by supporting “universal access” to a comprehensive range of benefits, including prevention, treatment, care and support for all personnel and their families. The provision of learning opportunities on HIV as a workplace issue is one of the UN Cares 10 Minimum Standards, ranging from information about UN policies and benefits related to HIV, to voluntary counselling and testing, and insurance covering HIV-related expenses. All ten of the minimum standards specified apply to all UN system organizations.

What are the objectives of the course?

The UN Cares e-course aims to improve knowledge and understanding of HIV-related issues so that staff members are able to:
• understand the facts about HIV and AIDS
• know how to prevent HIV transmission
• make healthy decisions to protect themselves and others
• contribute to a UN that ensures a fair, equitable and respectful workplace that is free of stigma and discrimination

Who should complete the course?

The e-course is intended for all UN Secretariat staff worldwide. It complements the in-person UN Cares course on HIV in the workplace and should be completed by staff members who may not have access to this. The course will be of particular interest to those working in an HIV/AIDS-related context. Participants can progressively save their work and come back at later points to continue their session as required. The UN Cares learning sessions on HIV in the workplace are mandatory in accordance with the Secretary-General’s Bulletin on HIV/AIDS in the Workplace Orientation Programme. These sessions include stimulating discussions, videos and periodically also personal testimonials which cannot be replicated in an e-course.

How long does the e-course take to complete?

The e-course takes about 90 minutes to complete and provides the latest information in an entertaining and user-friendly format. It also allows you to save your work and complete the course at a later time. Participants who successfully complete the course will be provided with a certificate which is issued through inspira.

How do I access the e-course?
