Eligibility

Eligible (non-paying)

  • United Nations Secretariat staff members*, including those WAE (with contracts ending after the last class of the course)
  • UNICEF, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNDP** and UN Women** staff members based in New York for NY-based course offerings (New York Brochure); and other duty stations for global course offerings (Global Brochure). (See Note below)
  • Delegates of the Permanent Missions to the United Nations
  • Delegates of Non-Member States with a standing invitation to participate as an observer (Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See and Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine)
  • United Nations Tour Guides
  • United Nations Retirees (Secretariat, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNOPS, UN Women)
  • UN Volunteers working at any UN Secretariat entity: 1 course per term per person for instructor-lead courses. No restrictions apply for courses without an instructor.

  • Note: The United Nations is reimbursed for the permitted students under separate arrangements with the Fund, Programme or Agency. There is no cost to the student.
  • *Please check the UN Organizational chart if you are unsure of your entity's reporting line.
  • **Previous approval from their HR required

Eligible (paying) category

  • Staff based in New York City liaison office at agencies, funds and programmes not listed above.
  • Mission staff of Permanent Missions to the United Nations (White D on badge)
  • Mission experts of Permanent mission to the United Nations (White D with red stripe across it on badge)
  • Delegates of Intergovernmental organizations such as The International Criminal Court and the European Union, among others (see complete list here)
  • UNFCU (Up to 10 participants) with approval from their HR
  • United Nations accredited Press (both White and Green P on badge)
  • United Nations recognized Spouses/Partners of staff members
  • NYLESA members (excluding NYLESA associate members)
  • Spouses of Delegates of Permanent and Observer Missions to the United Nations
  • Language and Communication Skills Courses Rates, Fees and Information on how to pay

Not Eligible

  • Only participants listed in the categories above are eligible for language and communication-skills courses. Some examples of non-eligible participants are:
