Mission readiness and wellness programme

The briefing and counselling guidance in the session covers all phases of mission assignment: pre-deployment briefing, ongoing support to staff members and their families during the mission assignment, assistance in social reintegration and following up on the return of a staff member from the mission, including:

  • Mission readiness check list of personal and professional arrangements to attend to in advance (family and financial affairs, instructions and will, travel, etc.)
  • Psychological aspects of deployment and separation from the family members
  • Understanding your personal stress profile
  • Awareness briefings on stress management and social welfare, HIV/AIDS
  • Alcohol/substance abuse risks related to lifestyle changes
  • Managing in stressful environments using examples from typical mission environments
  • Cultural awareness
  • Ongoing support available to staff members and their families
  • Social reintegration upon return (debriefing, family reunion, return to work)
