Assistant Secretary-General Carole Wainaina, Chief of the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM), recently visited Nairobi to familiarize herself with the duty station. She met with the UNON Director General Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde, and the Executive Directors of UN-Habitat and UNEP. She also held a dialogue with staff. She met with the Staff Representatives, UN Disputes Tribunal (UNDT) and Human Resources(HR) Community. The ASG has been in office for little over 3 months.
Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde welcomed Ms. Wainaina and thanked her for making the effort to meet with Nairobi-based staff so early in her tenure as head of OHRM. Ms. Zewde noted that Ms. Wainaina had joined the United Nations at a critical time, when the Organisation was undergoing major reforms and global change management initiatives affecting staff, including Umoja and mobility.
"I am addressing people who know the UN better than me and would like to make the session interactive so I can learn from you," remarked Ms. Carole Wainaina as she presented herself to the UN staff in Nairobi on 13 January, 2015. After the UNON Director-General had introduced to staff Ms. Wainaina, the Assistant Secretary-General for the Office of Human Resources Management, she immediately reached out to them with a question: "What makes your job in the UN interesting and motivating?"
Several staff members shared their rich personal experiences in the Organization, most of which were aimed at transforming the lives of many people, while fulfilling the mandate of the United Nations.
The Town Hall dialogue also included questions and comments to assist the ASG in her work.
