25 July: Start of POLNET semi-annual staffing exercise

The second POLNET staffing exercise is just around the corner!

On 25 July, the second POLNET semi-annual staffing exercise for 2016 will go live. The managed mobility exercise will commence on 25 July and the job openings for the vacancy exercise will be issued on 1 August.

Eligible POLNET staff will have the opportunity to participate in managed mobility and to change jobs laterally within their network. About 190 POLNET vacancies will be advertised in the Careers Portal offering lateral and/or higher level career opportunities to qualified internal and external applicants.

POLNET - second semi-annual managed mobility exercise

  • Interested POLNET staff can opt in to participate in the second managed mobility exercise between 25 July and 7 August 2016 via inspira "My managed mobility".
  • After the deadline closes and if confirmed eligible to participate, staff members will have access to the compendium of position announcements and shall express interest in at least 3 positions (no maximum). Actual movement opportunities are contingent on the final composition of the compendium. While there is potential opportunity to move to new functions, roles and duty stations, there is no guarantee.
  • Staff members may only opt out during the opt in period. The voluntary aspect of the exercise only relates to whether to "opt in" to participate or not.
  • Staff members who wish to participate in a managed mobility exercise are strongly encouraged to carefully review the relevant administrative issuances governing managed mobility (ST/AI/2016/1) and to participate in special webinars offered by the POLNET Network Staffing teams to clarify any questions.
  • Upcoming managed mobility webinar: 26 July (registration via inspira)

POLNET second semi-annual vacancy exercise

  • Beginning 1 August 2016, POLNET vacancies will be advertised in a staggered manner in the Careers Portal starting with Recruit from Roster positions (RfR) which require a 15 day posting period and Position Specific Job Openings (PSJOS) that require a 60 days posting period, followed by PSJOs that require a 30 days posting period. All jobs will open and close between 1 August 2016 and 29 September 2016.
  • The assessment process will include an eligibility check, a general ability test (for FS and P levels only), suitability screening, substantive test and, for the top performing candidate,s an interview. Candidates who are already rostered bypass the assessment process and proceed directly to the final list of candidates for consideration, depending for which jobs they have been rostered. Applicants will be given a 24-hour time window for all tests given during the assessment process. Applicants should frequently check hr.un.org/page/assessmentfor dates and times, which may be subject to change.

Getting ready for 2017
In 2017, the requirement for mobility based on position occupancy limit will become effective for POLNET staff.  This means that POLNET positions in which staff have reached the maximum position occupancy will be included in a managed mobility exercise. The first such mandatory exercise is planned to start in January 2017.

All staff are strongly encouraged to first self-review their current position occupancy limit with a view to the mobility requirement. If you are unsure, local HR Officers or Executive Offices may provide the necessary assistance and liaise with the POLNET Network Staffing Team.

In the meantime, the first POLNET staffing exercises are being finalized. This includes selection decisions for vacancies advertised in April 2016 and movement decisions in the first managed mobility which started in January 2016.
