Mandatory Learning

Mandatory learning banner - On the right, a young woman is smiling as she works on her laptop, wearing headphones.

The United Nations has several learning programmes that are mandatory for all personnel to ensure familiarity with key regulations, rules, and processes. The Organization requires that all personnel take the courses listed in the first section below. In addition to these, other courses are required for certain groups of staff, as laid out in the subsequent sections.

If you are uncertain what applies to you, contact the staff development/learning/training office or an HR Partner at your duty station for more clarification. Staff deploying to the field will be notified about pre-deployment training.

For staff who need to transfer their mandatory learning records

If you have already completed part of the mandatory learning and need to transfer it to your internal Inspira account, you may request a transfer of records using your existing certificates. Please note not all mandatory learning courses may be equivalent between UN agencies, funds, and programmes, and some courses may have been replaced or retired since you completed them.

For non-staff personnel who need access to mandatory learning

Anyone that does not have an Inspira account that can be accessed with their UN credentials can access all self-paced mandatory learning through elearning.un.org by following these instructions. Any mandatory learning completed on a user-created account can later be transferred to an internal Inspira account. However, you cannot request a record transfer to a self-created account.
