Welcome to the Orientation Hub
First Week
As a new staff member finishes their first week, this is a perfect time to focus on resources that help to communicate and connect.
With UN email and United ID, a new staff member can continue to settle in by completing tasks in the GO2UN Start Smart App.
These tasks, which have due dates tailored to the learner, include content such as that shared below.
To learn more about this important resource for all United Nations personnel:
Watch a short video about UNOMS in English or French and take a 5-question quiz.
Take note of how to contact UNOMS.
The United Nations Intranet is called “iSeek” and is an important resource. If you have UN email, you can log in to iseek.un.org with your Unite ID, and search for "Introduction to iSeek" - to join a one-hour webinar. The iSeek team will lead you on a short tour of the useful apps, tools, and information available on the UN Intranet-iSeek. You will learn:
- how to find the essential information and tools to do your work
- how to stay informed of the latest events, news, and announcements
- how to search for job opportunities and training
- how to connect with colleagues around the world
Preparing a personal learning plan will help you to "seek out formal and informal opportunities to learn and develop, both personally and professionally", as advised in the UN Values and Behaviours Framework. With its structured approach, a learning plan will help you both achieve goals and keep track of your learning progress, which is useful to refer to in performance management comments and job applications.
In the United Nations, there are many and varied learning opportunities that you could include in your plan, and here are just two examples:
Linkedin Learning Account
LinkedIn Learning is a leading online learning platform that can help anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills on the job, when you need it, and at your own pace.
After receiving your United Nations e-mail address, you will be able to use it to sign up for a LinkedIn Learning license, which is available to all UN personnel at no cost. Once you have activated your account, you will instantly gain access to the full LinkedIn Learning video library of learning content.
Writing Tips
If you and your colleagues need to write in English for work, sign up to receive weekly writing tips by e-mail. These tips are prepared by an English language teacher in Geneva and include United Nations examples.
