Inspira Modernization Update

Inspira, the Secretariat’s platform for talent management, is being upgraded as part of the roadmap to modernize technology in the UN. Advanced technology provides critical support to meeting the strategic objectives of the Organization.

A number of essential functionalities are administered through inspira. This includes staffing related activities, performance management and learning courses. Approximately 8,000 to 12,000 use inspira every day.

On 22 October 2015, a new, more dynamic version of inspira will go live after a short planned service outage from 17 to 22 October.

What should inspira users expect?

While processes in inspira will remain the same and there will be no fundamental functional changes, users will be able to benefit from a range of enhancements:

A new user interface: inspira will get a contemporary design that will improve the way information is presented, making it easier to navigate and work faster.

Improved alignment of navigation with work flow behaviour: All menus will be presented and laid out in a way that reflects how you work in inspira, not the tab style as it is currently. This means you will be able to adjust the navigation to your needs and preferences.

Better search functionality and improved usability: A new (Google-like) search tool will make it faster to find information.

Communicating within the system: Users will be able to collaborate within the system.

Adjustment to the new version of inspira is expected to be an easy transition and will be supported by a learning tutorial for users.

How will the planned service outage impact me?

In order to complete all changes required for the upgrade, a temporary service outage is planned from 17 to 22 October 2015. During this time, users will not be able to access inspira at all. For example, staff will not be able to search for jobs, apply for jobs, create or manage job openings, access staffing information or performance documents, or enrol for learning courses.

What will happen to job openings with deadlines during the planned outage?

Deadlines for job openings occurring within the period will be automatically extended. Executive offices and administration will receive a separate notification on the impact of staffing activities.

Given the unavailability of the system during that period, managers and staff are asked to organize and plan their activities accordingly.

Will existing data in the system be affected?

There is no impact to existing data such as job openings, applicant data, and performance management documents. There is no need to save or transfer any data.
