Before you begin your application in inspira, please make sure you have handy the below information:

  • Your relevant teaching and/or research experience, including a list of your publications.
  • Your relevant professional experience that enhances your ability to carry out your proposed research or study project.
  • Name and address of the institution or organization that has agreed to host you during your research or study project.
  • Full name of the person at the institution who has issued your acceptance.
  • Phone number of the person at the institution who has issued your acceptance.
  • Written correspondence between you and the proposed Sabbatical institution confirming your acceptance.
  • Written correspondence between you and the proposed advisor at the Sabbatical institution confirming your acceptance.
  • Title of proposed research.
  • Field of the research or study project.
  • Purpose of the research or study project.
  • Outline of the topic or topics to be covered, including specific questions or subtopics that your research or study project will address.
  • Detailed methodology explaining how you will address or investigate the questions or subtopics that you listed in above, that is, the primary or secondary research methods that you will use.
  • Schedule of work of the research or study project, with an indication of any preparatory work already accomplished.
  • List of study or research activities that you intend to undertake, including where they will be conducted.
  • Relevance of the research or study project to the current and future work of the United Nations and to your current or future responsibilities.
  • The proposed beginning date/end date of your Study/project. (maximum 4 months as per ST/AI/2015/5).
  • Signed declaration contained in the annex to administrative instruction ST/AI/2015/5 on Sabbatical Leave Programme.

Please make sure you provide a clear, detailed, and feasible proposal for the Selection committee to review. Applications missing proper approvals or incomplete will not be considered.

The terms of the proposal submitted by the staff member shall be binding and cannot be modified after the deadline.


Selection of institution

Staff members are responsible for identifying the institution or organization in which they propose to carry out their study or research project.

They may choose among universities and independent institutions worldwide, including United Nations University research and training centres and those connected to the Academic Council on the United Nations System (see "Resources").

Staff members are also responsible for securing their acceptance by the selected institution and for ascertaining the type of support services and facilities that the institution is willing to provide. This information has to be included in the application.
