The Personal History Profile (PHP) is an extended online resume designed for the United Nations, where you set out your education, competencies, achievements and professional experience. It is your opportunity to tell your story in a way that demonstrates that you are the best candidate for a job.

How to prepare your Personal History Profile (PHP)

Draft notes in a Word file.
Write short descriptions about your education, competencies, achievements and professional experience. Make sure you have the details on dates, job titles, supervisors, work accomplishments, and certifications, learning, professional recognition, and other value-added elements of your work history that make you stand out. You will be entering text from these notes/files into the inspira tool.

Update your traditional resume or C.V.
Align the descriptions in the resume with your notes.

Complete the online course " Pursuing Your Career in the UN" accessible through the Blue Line suite of Programmes.

This programme is available free of charge to all Secretrariat staff.

Save your polished PHP in your internal inspira account.

Continuously add to and update your PHP as you work in your current job.
Add learning, special projects, or assignments into your PHP.

Write a cover letter when you apply for a job opening.
The PHP is used to evaluate your suitability for the job and a cover letter helps a hiring manager to interpret what is on the PHP. Job openings in the UN Secretariat are published in the inspira online recruitment tool, and are available to external applicants through the UN Careers Portal.
