Effective performance management is a key driver for managing the talent we have in our Organization. Over the 2014-2015 performance cycle that ended in 30 June 2015, 85% of all staff members had their performance documents finalized, marking an increase from 81% as compared to last year.
What kind of performance management training is available?
Performance management training is mandatory for those who supervise others (ST/SGB/2011/5). The purpose is to promote a culture of high performance, personal professional development, continuous learning and individual accountability.
During the 2014-15 performance cycle, the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) redesigned the mandatory Performance Management and Development Learning Programme for Managers and Supervisors. The module has been shortened from 8 to 4 hours and provides more hands-on support to managers on preparing a measurable workplan, providing meaningful feedback, tackling underperformance, and evaluating staff fairly and consistently.
The Performance Management team in the United Nations Headquarters conducted 35 face-to-face Performance Management and Development sessions and trained over 300 managers. Managers gave positive feedback on the revised module: 97% found it a good investment of their time and would recommend it to other managers. During this same period, 10 webinars were given to 100 Performance Management focal points at Offices Away from Headquarters and the field.
The revised mandatory Performance Management and Development Learning Programme for Managers and Supervisors has been rolled out to all Offices Away from Headquarters and Regional Commissions. The Integrated Training Service in the Department of Field Support worked closely with OHRM to design the training and provide it to all peacekeeping and political missions.
