Set against a backdrop of increasingly scarce resources, the annual Human Resources Conference was re-purposed so that business readiness for the Umoja solution, a key reform initiative being gradually deployed in clusters across the UN Secretariat, was the primary focus this year.
The conference took place from 29 July to 2 August 2013 in Valencia, Spain due to the location’s pivotal role as the IT hub supporting the system’s deployment.
Seizing the momentum of the Umoja Pilot launch in UNIFIL and UNSCOL on 1 July, this year’s event was tied to an engaging conference theme representing the dynamic of organizational change.
Opened by Ms. Catherine Pollard, ASG OHRM, the conference offered an opportunity for HR practitioners worldwide to develop a common understanding of Umoja. The event also served as a forum to explore the challenges and priorities that are to be expected in a project of this magnitude. Sessions were held on a range of topics including organizational alignment, position management, communications and benefits realization.
The conference brought together representatives from key functional areas, including DPKO/DFS, ICTD, OCSS, OPPBA, as well as the Umoja Team. Participants were equipped with practical tools and actions to ensure successful implementation of Umoja.
