The Language and Communications Training Unit (LCTU) offers support in the form of products, trainings, and advisory services to Learning Managers and training focal points in offices away from Headquarters and field duty stations in developing and enhancing current or prospective language programmes. 

The LCTU is administered by the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service in the Office of Support Operations (OSO) at UNHQ and is composed of language and communication specialists in all six official languages. 

These are already-existing materials for language learning and teaching in different media (paper, digital, video/audio) that a learning manager or a training focal point can use or distribute without further support from the LCTU.

 Training

The Customized Training Team (CCT) of the LCTU offers customized solutions that target a wide range of clients, and are created to meet specific needs of a requesting office/department. Trainings may be organized at the request of a Learning Manager or a training focal point for a department or duty station. 

 Advisory services:

The LCTU offers guidance on setting up or maintaining language learning programmes, and on advising on purchasing and deploying language learning licenses for learning managers or HR practitioners in offices away from Headquarters and field duty stations. The LCTU can also meet with you virtually by request to further guide you. Specific topics include but are not limited to: implementation of the UN Language Framework, implementation of the gender-inclusive guidelines, teacher recruitment, teacher training and local language programme development.
