The United Nations Secretariat has held an Annual Memorial Service since 2011 to honour colleagues who have lost their lives in the service of the Organization, including the UN Funds and Programmes.
This year, the Service will be held on Monday 19 August 2013, which is the 10th anniversary of the Baghdad Canal Hotel bombing.
The United Nations will always remember that day on 19 August 2003 at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad where we lost colleagues and friends, and the lives of many were permanently changed. A decade has now passed, this annual day of remembrance serves to remind us all of the dangers that our staff and personnel face every day in line of duty.
The Service will honour those who have lost their lives in the service of the Organization from September 2012 to 30 June 2013, with a special dedication to colleagues who lost their lives in Baghdad on 19 August 2003.
It will be held in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the UN Headquarters inNew York from 10 to 11 am and will also be accessible via a live webcast.
All UN Staff are welcome to attend.
The Service will be an occasion for the entire United Nations family to honour the lives and contributions of our fallen colleagues.
