2016 Sabbatical Leave Programme open for applications

Have you ever wondered if you could take a break from work and focus on a research or a study project? Do you think your research could benefit the Organization? If that is the case, you might want to consider applying for the Sabbatical Leave Programme. Applications are to be sent via email to sabbatical@un.org no later than 31 March 2016

The Sabbatical Programme is an opportunity for staff members to

  • add value to their contribution to the Organization and enhance their intellectual growth through research on issues relating to the work of the UN;
  • enhance dialogue and contacts between the UN and other organizations and institutions engaged in related work worldwide; and
  • gain exposure to state-of-the-art research and practices on issues on the international agenda.

The Sabbatical Leave Programme offers up to four months of paid leave and is open to Secretariat staff members who, at the time of the application, have completed five years of continuous service with the Secretariat under continuing, permanent or fixed-term appointments, and who undertake not to resign before completing two years of service following sabbatical leave.

For more details, please review the new Administrative Instruction (ST/AI/2015/5) and the related Information Circular (ST/IC/2015/28), which includes the application form and checklist.
